Winter smoothie with dried fruit

januar 06, 2017

I'm pretty sure smoothies are modern potions. They combine the best of nature with the best of technology to make you healthy and strong! I just love them. In winter I like to use frozen fruit, but dried fruit is also a great option if you want some variety.

Goji berries are one of the first superfoods I fell in love with. They have a very unique taste and a ton of health benefits. And they have a surprising amount of protein for a fruit.

"These berries contain all 8 essential amino acids. A single 4-ounce serving provides nearly 10 percent of your daily value for protein", says Health line.

Goji berries are actually so powerful you may want to be careful with them if you have medical conditions related to blood sugar or blood pressure and if you're pregnant or nursing.

But apart from that, they are really a superfood that can aid in weight loss (so relevant right now, ahem!), they help fight flu and inflammation in the body. They are even considered a natural alternative to the blue pill!

Well, if that's not enough reason to put goji berries into your winter smoothie, I don't know what is! Come on, let's get blending!

Winter smoothie with goji berries

a handful prunes (pitted)

a handful goji berries
1 banana
small piece ginger
juice of half a lemon
a cup hemp seed milk
1 teaspoon honey/agave nectar

Place prunes and goji berries in a bowl, cover with water and let soak for 4-8 hours. Put all the ingredients, including the soaking water, in a blender and blend on high speed for about a minute. Pour your goji berry smoothie in a pretty glass and serve immediately. You'll be rewarded with a beautiful winter smoothie, full of antioxidants, iron, vitamin C, omega 3 and 6 fatty acids, potassium, and calcium that may keep you going strong all winter long! Yay!
